Education: wambui
Wambui undertook her undergraduate degree at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. She graduated with a Second Class (Upper Division) and was presented with her Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) in 2021. Thereafter, she pursued her Post-graduate diploma in Legal Studies (PgD) from the Kenya School of Law. She was admitted to the Kenyan Roll of Advocates in 2023.
Wambui is constantly working to grow in her professional journey and has undertaken courses that have played a role in shaping and re-inventing her career. These include;

- Holistic Strategic Litigation against LGBTI Torture by Redress in November 2022

Education: mwangi
Mwangi is and has always been an overachiever. In August of 2018, Mwangi was awarded the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship by the Tempus Public Foundation to pursue an undergraduate degree at the University of Debrecen in Hungary. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in December 2022 and was awarded the TalentUD Award for Foreign Students and Dean’s Commendation for Outstanding Academic Achievement in January 2023.

Wambui works within the Litigation Department as a Litigation Associate and is in charge of general client care, drafting pleadings & non-litigious documents and prosecution of the Firm’s matters before various courts of law in Kenya. With the firm’s local, regional and international collaborations and clientelle, Wambui’s work is diversified and ranges from Family Law, Conveyancing and Land Law, Insurance Law, Criminal Law and Corporate Law.

Wambui works with highly intelligent and dynamic young individuals to provide legal and overall support to Lawlyfy’s tech team. She has offered background assistance to the ‘localisation’ of the Artificial Intelligence best suited for complementing legal researchers, lawyers and students within Kenya’s legal landscape.

HARRY KARANJA AND COMPANY ADVOCATES
Wambui worked within the litigation department first, as a Litigation Legal Assistant before her admission into the Kenyan Bar, and thereafter as as an Associate.
During her time at the firm, she provided overall support to the litigation department through comprehensive legal research, court attendance, drafting pleadings & non-litigious documents & general client care. She practiced Civil Law, Commercial and Company Law as well as Criminal Law.

OUTRIGHT INTERNATIONAL
Wambui had the priviledge and opportunity to work alongside some of the most brilliant, dynamic and exceptional human rights champions within the Law, Policy and Research Departments between February and June 2023.
She supported the departments through comprehensive global research, monitoring of the application of laws and policies and drafting reports and publications. During her exit, Wambui co-authored an op-ed with Neela Ghoshal on the state of LGBT organising and the conflict with laws within African Countries.

THE JUDICIARY
Wambui undertook tutelage between July 2022 and February 2023 under the Registrar of the Court of Appeal as part of the requirements for admission into the Kenyan Roll of Advocates. She had the priviledge to meet and work under the Honourable Lady Justice Murgor who took time to pass down invaluable knowledge and experience of the workings of the Court of Appeal. She successfully learned the procedures of the appellate court and how to litigate before it.
Before her time at the Court of Appeal, Wambui was properly inducted into the Judiciary through her time under Honourable AbdulQadir Lorot (as he then was) while still pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in law between May and June 2018.

CONSULTANCY: LEGAL AND PROGRAM DEPARTMENTS
APRIL 2022 – APRIL 2023
Wambui began her time with NGLHRC as an intern right after her graduation and during the first two terms of her training at the Kenya School of Law. Here, she supported the Legal Department through research, general client care and drafting internal reports.
Upon competion of her post-graduate training, Wambui was presented with a Consulting opportunity with the organisation which saw her expand her expertise and advocacy of sexual and gender minority rights and issues.
As a consultant with the Legal and Program Departments, her work majorly involved aiding in the overall implementation of the Legal Aid Program through, among others; updating and maintaining databases, general client care, research & documentation, participating in community activities, monitoring projects, aiding in production of reports and external messaging; and representing the organization in workshops and meetings.

CENTER FOR RIGHTS EDUCATION AND AWARENESS [creaw]
At CREAW (K), Wambui’s work with non-profits became more specialised as it was primarily focused on women and young girls in need of social and legal assistance.
During her time with the organisation between October 2019 and January 2021, Wambui aided in the implementation of the Linda Haki Program through general client care, research & documentation, legal drafting and participating in community activities.
It is through this internship that Wambui discovered her passion for human rights work and how it later shaped her experience both as a professional and as a young woman.
project EIGHT
JUSTICE DEFENDERS
Formerly African Prisons Project, this internship was Wambui’s first encounter with pro bono work, non-profits and human rights work. Here, Wambui worked with persons in conflict with the law at Machakos G.K Prisons, catering to both the programs and legal departments between May and June 2018.
However short the period, Wambui supported the Legal and Programs Departments through general legal research, assisting clients with drafting legal documents and administering legal aid.
Her experience at Justice Defenders was not only eye-opening, but also necessary as it influenced her undergraduate Thesis that focused on Kenya’s Correctional System, the laws governing it, its institutions as well as its shortcomings.
